KAILUA-KONA — Kealakehe quarterback Markus Degrate and running back Kobe Antolin combined for five first-half touchdowns and the defense added back-to-back scores in the second quarter as the Waveriders rolled over Keaau 65-0 at Waverider Stadium in a Big Island Interscholastic Federation game.

Kealakehe (3-3 BIIF, 3-4) pulled the majority of its starters late in the second quarter.

In one half of action, Degrate was 10 of 16 for 124 yards and one touchdown. He also had 83 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Antolin finished with 73 yards rushing and four touchdowns.

Junior defensive end Joseph Kaopua had three sacks and Randy Hatori forced a fumble and picked up two sacks for the Waveriders on their homecoming night.

Antolin scored on a pair of touchdown runs in the first quarter before Kealakehe exploded for 36 points in the second.

Degrate found Tuitahi Faleofa-Taumoefolau on a 7-yard strike early, then Antolin scored his third first-half touchdown hat trick on a 4-yard run.

The Waveriders’ defense got in on the scoring after safety Keoki Meyers forced a fumble and Klien Hao returned it 27 yards for a score. On Keaau’s next play from scrimmage, Rylen McComber stepped in front of a Justin Quesada pass and took it back 31 yards, untouched, for Kealakehe’s third score in a 30-second span.

Degrate capped the second quarter, scoring on a 46-yard scamper down the sideline.

The Cougars (0-6, 0-7) did not have a first down until around the five-minute mark of the second quarter. The team’s biggest gain of the first half came on a 25-yard scramble by Quesada on a fake punt with four seconds remaining in the half.

Antolin and Meyers had second-half touchdowns for Kealakehe.
